Auch wenn soziale Netzwerke einige Vorteile mit sich bringen, wirkt sich der Konsum
sozialer Medien besorgniserregend auf die Gesundheit und das (psychische) Wohlbefinden von Jugendlichen aus. Um
den Problemen entgegenzuwirken, müssen die Jugendlichen dazu befähigt werden mehr als nur Nutzer der sozialen
Plattformen zu sein. Sie müssen die zukünftige digitale Welt aktiv mitgestalten können. Dazu gehört auch die
Entwicklung eines reflektierten und verantwortungsbewussten Umgangs mit Daten aller Art, der sogenannten Data
Literacy. Mit dem Social Media Tool Instaclone möchten wir helfen, die Daten- und Medienkompetenz von SchülerInnen
zu verbessern.
Was ist Instaclone? InstaClone ist eine Webumgebung, die die Funktionalitäten und das Aussehen von
Instagram imitiert, und dabei zeigt, was im Hintergrund sozialer Medien passiert. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler
können die Plattform so nutzen, wie sie normalerweise Instagram nutzen würden, z.B. eigene Posts verfassen.
Integrierte Dashboards und analytische Funktionen bieten einen Blick hinter die Kulissen von Social Media, und
zeigen, welche und wie Daten erfasst und verarbeitet werden. Begleitendes Lehrmaterial erlaubt es, Themen wie
Datenschutz und Social Media, zu diskutieren und direkt im Tool auszuprobieren. Lehrer behalten dabei jederzeit
die vollständige Kontrolle über alles, was auf der Social Media Plattform passiert. Durch InstaClone wird im
Unterricht nicht nur hypothetisch über die Vor- und Nachteile von Social Media gesprochen, sondern die
Schülerinnen und Schüler erfahren die möglichen Dynamiken selbst, fördern ihre Datenkompetenzen und können so
problematischem Konsum von sozialen Medien besser vorbeugen.
An wen richtet sich Instaclone? InstaClone richtet sich an SchülerInnen der Sekundarstufe. Das Tool
ist für SchülerInnen und LehrerInnen mit und ohne Programmierkentnisse nutzbar.
- Informatikunterricht: Mit Instaclone werden alle Schritte des Data Lifecylces, von Datensammlung bis hin zur Visualisierung erlebbar gemacht. Darüber hinaus erlaubt das Tool die in Instaclone produzierten Daten einfach herunterzuladen und in Datenanalyse-Programmen wie Orange mit den SchülerInnen weiter zu verarbeiten.
- Andere Unterrichtsformen: In zahlreichen Fächern steht der verantwortungsvolle Umgang mit sozialen Medien auf dem Lehrplan. Anhand von Instaclone können Themen wie Datenschutz und Privatsphäre, Hassrede, FakeNews, und korrektes Verhalten im Netz hautnah miterlebt, diskutiert und reflektiert werden.
Woher kommt Instaclone? Instaclone wurde von Wissenschaftlern aus den Bereichen Informatikdidaktik
(Prof. Tilman Michaeli, Elena Starke), Schul-und Unterrichtsforschung (Prof. Doris Holzberger, Dr. Anna Hartl),
und Computational Social Science (Jürgen Pfeffer, Angelina Voggenreiter) im Rahmen des Reboot Social Media Labs
vom TUM ThinkTank entwickelt und im Schulkontext getestet. Das Tool wird stetig weiterentwickelt, um auch die
neuen Entwicklungen in der Social Media Welt für den Schulunterricht erlebbar zu machen.
Even though social networks have some advantages, the consumption of social media has a
worrying effect on the health and (mental) well-being of young people. In order to counteract the problems, young
people must be empowered to be more than just users of social platforms. You must be able to actively shape the
future digital world. This also includes the development of a reflective and responsible handling of all kinds of
data, the so-called data literacy. With the social media tool Instaclone we want to help improve students' data
and media skills.
What is Instaclone? InstaClone is a web environment that mimics the functionality and look of
Instagram while showing what's happening in the background of social media. The students can use the platform as
they would normally use Instagram, e.g. write their own posts. Integrated dashboards and analytical functions
offer a look behind the scenes of social media, showing what and how data is collected and processed. Accompanying
teaching material allows topics such as data protection and social media to be discussed and tried out directly in
the tool. Teachers retain complete control over everything that happens on the social media platform at all times.
With InstaClone, the advantages and disadvantages of social media are not only discussed hypothetically in class,
but the students experience the possible dynamics themselves, promote their data skills and can thus better
prevent problematic consumption of social media.
Who is Instaclone aimed at? InstaClone is aimed at secondary school students. The tool can be used by
students and teachers with and without programming knowledge.
- Computer science lessons: With Instaclone, all steps of the data lifecycle, from data collection to visualization, can be experienced. In addition, the tool allows the data produced in Instaclone to be easily downloaded and further processed with the students in data analysis programs such as Orange.
- Other forms of teaching: The responsible use of social media is part of the curriculum in numerous subjects. Using Instaclone, topics such as data protection and privacy, hate speech, fake news, and correct online behavior can be experienced, discussed and reflected on up close.
Where does Instaclone come from? Instaclone was developed by scientists from the fields of computer
science didactics (Prof. Tilman Michaeli, Elena Starke), school and teaching research (Prof. Doris Holzberger, Dr.
Anna Hartl), and computational social science (Jürgen Pfeffer, Angelina Voggenreiter). Developed by the TUM
ThinkTank as part of the Reboot Social Media Lab and tested in a school context. The tool is constantly being
developed in order to make the new developments in the social media world tangible for school lessons.
